Q&A: Will God ever go back on His promises?

When we talk about God's promises we must understand that they are first and foremost linked to His purposes (His will and design, not for our lives only, but for all of creation). Scripture teaches that He "works everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His will”. (Ephesians 1:11 AMP)

God's purposes are very clear and specific and they are eternal.  We can see this in the cross of Jesus. Though Jesus only appeared on life's stage about 2000 years ago, His death and consequential resurrection was foreordained by our Father before the foundation of this world. (1 Peter 1:20)

Long before we see God's purposes materialize, God sends His Word, many times in the form of promises.

“"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11 NASB)

If God's purposes are eternal and unchanging, His promises also remain to be true and becomes a source of steadfast hope in every believer's life. We find encouragement in the very fact that "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19 NASB)

God's promises are seldom fulfilled in the time and way we imagine it. Just ask Abraham and Sarah. But we know that even in their old age, a son was born to this couple, since they "considered Him faithful who had promised.” (Hebrews 11:11 NASB)

I want to encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, even if those promises seem to be very far removed from your current reality, because in Him all the promises of God are Yes and Amen! (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Before I go, I want to remind you of one promise given to this church more than a decade ago. May you be encouraged by the reminder of this great promise. Remember He who has made this promise is always faithful!

“The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)

Be blessed

Is it wrong to be familiar with God?

Y ou may or may not have heard the statement made in a Charismatic meeting. The preacher, after using one or more biblical passage to prove his point, solemnly warning the congregation about the dangers of becoming familiar with God. Often spiritual issues like losing the fear of the Lord, unbelief and pride are listed as the end result of familiarity with the Almighty. But is this really true? Now I am not for a moment diminishing the seriousness of the aforementioned spiritual issues. But is familiarity with God truly the culprit? One of the passages I've most often encountered that is used in this regard is found in Mark 6: “Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t th...

Ekids - Week 4 (Shield of Faith)

Bible Story Page (4-5) “Exploring Canaan” (Numbers 13-14) GIVE each child a paper plate and a coloring utensil. Then, SAY: ALLOW kids to put plates on top of heads. Then, READ the story below. ALLOW kids to look at their drawings and score them based on the numbers below: In Numbers 13-14, there is a story about two men who relied on their faith in God to protect their hearts when everyone else was weakr. As I read this Bible story, I will give you instructions about what to draw on your plate! BUT…you have to put the plate on top of your head while you draw! A long time ago, God’s people, the Israelites, were slaves in Egypt. But God used a man named Moses to free them from slavery and lead them to the amazing land that God promised them. After being in the desert for many years, Moses and the Israelites finally arrived at Canaan, the land that God had promised to give them. Moses chose 12 men to go into the land. He wanted them to see what it looked like, if...
